Funky heels + colored tights + a patterned mini-dress = possible teachin' outfit.

Other outfits based on what I've purchased.
Yeah.
-Light blue vintage blazer. Wear with a mini & longer tee? Or bell-bottomy pants?
-Long navy w/cream pok-a-dots blazer that could be belted over leggings.
-Mini-spring-dresses with thick tights & long cardigans.
-Make short furry bag into an across-the-body bag. Yep.

I saved these up for you.

it's another tequila sunrise...

Two new fashionbloggers to follow: Tranish and TheFashionGarden.
I love both outfits - STRIPES!
And sox w/heels.
And short shorts.
And florals.
And long necklaces w/charms.

Purchases yesterday @Savers, $25 total (had a coupon - by 4 get 5th free):
---Floral, mini-dress with big pockets. I think it's a natural fabric... or a really good rayon.
---Woven clogs.
---Floral, vintage top that has a defined waist.
---Light denim, cropped jacket by the Limited.
---Cropped-ish floral, button-up, short-sleeved top.

I have a lot of other things to do this week, but if I get those things wrapped up,
I want to make pom-poms and revise that fur, across-the-body bag so I can use it.
And I want to play with the bag of feathers I bought too.

And maybe I should post pictures of my homemade harness necklace...
as well as some recent outfits, eh? Yeah.

Moondance Jam.

Thank you, Walker, MN for the awesome time. We'll be back.

moondance jam.

In April, my sister bid on Moondance Jam tickets at the Dream$ Auction (an auction sponsored by NDSCS, my college, that hopes to bring in $$$ for scholarships every year - it's a big ta-do with shrimp and champagne and live/silent auctions, etc.) hoping my dad would go with her. Then her back-up was my sister-in-law. Both people fell through as "dates," so once again, my sister had to use me as a travel companion. We do well together (L.A. spring break trip/drove her to Maine last fall, etc.), but she was hoping for someone NEW.

Oh well. Yeah for me because I've never attended an outdoor festival. Moondance is in Walker, MN, and we'll see Johnny Lang & Lynrd Skynrd for sure Saturday night. Since she/we waited too long planning-wise, we opted to crash at a nearby uber awesome hotel that overlooks Leech Lake. Spendy, but a nice idea for after being outside all day... and with our weather lately, we may get around tornados and hail that way too.

So, what am I gonna wear? :o)
Cut-offs for sure. A tee or tank that's not super fitted. Close-toed shoes, but not tennies... so maybe my Doc Martens? Then, to carry stuff, my vintage leather across-the-body bag... and maybe my cowboy hat? Definitely my aviators. Yeah. I have to look a lil' rock-n-roll-ish, right?

fade to black.

I new blog to love. FadeToBlack. Hells Yeah.
And an idea from the StyleBubble blog: making pom-poms with cardboard pieces and scraps of fabric. Curl up cardboard into a circle (I knew I should've saved those TP rings!), staple, and then tie scraps all around it? From there, tie string to the ring and hang the pom-pom from a purse or one's neck or tie around shoes to make 'em funky, perhaps? It's another DIY I have to try.

And I did make some recycle-based loop-earrings (circular pieces of plastic bottle with fabric wrapped around & stapled/glued). I should take some pics of those & plop 'em on here, eh?

retract that?

In my last post, I tried to pinpoint my style:
"People are often able to pinpoint, to a degree, what their style is. Goth, princess, French... just like they are able to pinpoint their decorating style (Minimal, American Classic, cabin-esque, etc.). And instead of being "one of those people" who says, "Well, I like everything but country" when it comes to music likes, I'd like to pinpoint my style.

It's got a few parts. When I get ready, I like to look like a combo of these things or one particular thing:
Big Categories:
--- Rockstar... studs, black, crazy hair, fitted tops, loose jeans, cowboy boots, flannel... mixed with
Grunge... messy, mis-matched, chains...
--- Hippie... bell bottoms, clogs, funky patterns, mini-skirts, ... mixed with Vintage Freak... one-of-a-kind finds with basics from Target...
--- Minimal... great-fitting jeans, flattering blazers, funky tees, single weird charm necklaces...

Maybe this evolves, but I think that I mostly use these categories to create a style that's feminine and rough."

Well, I think "minimal" is found in those other categories, and as I'm reading Marie Claire (and other fashionbloggers) today, I'm think the third category would be Country/The Wild West or something like that. I like cowboy boots and Levis and fur and plaids and moose and leather and braids and fringe.

$1 Bag Sale? SIGN ME UP!

The lil' ol' thrift store in Breckenridge, MN, the sister city to my town across the mighty Red River, had a $1 bag sale... talk about make-me-drool. Granted, they don't have the inventory of some of the Fargo secondhand stores, but STILL.

What did I purchase?
-A Native-American-ish poncho. I don't have one, so yeah.
-A funky, maybe 80s-ish long blazer that's weird shades of purple and other calm colors.
-A boy's size Wahpeton Youth Wrestling tee. It's tight, but I wanted a grey fitted one (and when I turn it inside-out, I can wear my harness necklace over it).
-Big, baggy, olive green cargo pants, by Old Navy?, that I have to fold the waist over to wear. Will wear with feminine lace, I think for the hard/soft contrast I love.
-Beige linen dress, by Newport News?, which reminds me of the "naked dress" Carrie wears on one of her first dates with Mr. Big. It's not perfect in its fit on me, but it'll work... I think... for less than 20pennies, who cares.
-White peasant skirt/dress, from Old Navy, that can be worn at waist or chest.
-Black&white striped tee that's a wee bit cropped. Sort of.

Is that it? I think so? That's a good haul, hun? I mean, they are mostly basics and the first two are oddballs (I like to purchase at least 1 oddball/different thing during each shopping trip - something special).

I used to be such a tomboy.

I want her long earring; don't you?
from That's Chic's blog.
from Slanelle's blog.

a 17-yr-old named Frida Johnson.
from FashionZen's blog.

The title of this blog is true. I just "friended" someone on FB who knew me pre-fashionblog... or basically knew me before I started really looking into style and all that. I wore big baggy jeans in high school, pretending to be a part of the Grunge/Alternative posse. I just wanted to fit in with a group that was supposed to be full of nonconformists; we, or they, conformed to that idea.

Anyhow, I didn't do leggings or dresses or mis-matching back then really. Purchasing&watching Sex & The City in graduate school changed all that. I wanted to channel Carrie Bradshaw... with my own twist on it, my own midwestern take that includes frugal shopping tactics. Like, ebay and secondhand stores. :o)

Frida Johnson, above, is on LookBook and ... I'm somewhat jealous; at 17, I didn't dress femininely whatsoever. That was the era I grew up in though, so I guess I can't change that. It's not like there were girls like her in my school who were fashionable; we all wore jeans and tees. The popular ones wore the more expensive stuff (and by that I mean Guess and Esprit and Express and Girbaud) versus Levis and Gap and Target... you know what I mean. Sixty dollar jeans versus $30... not $300 versus $30. It's North Dakota afterall; we didn't have access, pre-1995, to ebay and online stores. But that's true for most of the country... for most of the Fly-Over States anyhow.

I've said enough. Main point: It would be interesting to run into, physically, those who knew me "back then"... because I think I portray a different person now. Maybe?
